AEROPLANES FOR DEMOCRACIES
SURVEY OF U.S. CIVIL AVIATION (Received April 30, 9 p.ra.) WASHINGTON, April 29. Mr Roosevelt has announced that he is acting for a survey of civil avia-, tion facilities to ascertain how many aeroplanes could be bought fop the defence of the democracies. He said the belligerent democracies really needed civilian transport aeroplanes. Slip "New York Times" comments that all types of aeroplanes, including trainers, will probably be sept to Britain and China. CALL TO WAR ;:/;; ; iss|ED ; (Received April 30, 7 p.m.) NEW YORK. Abandoning the pacifism it has held since 1918. a group of notable Liberals has' issued a call to war, and formed a committee entitled the Union for Democratic Action. .. „ 4 , Composed mostly of Intellectuals hitherto regarded as Left Wingers, the committee will attempt to rally similar minds, excluding Communists. Its attitude towards war is a demand for whatever political,; economic, and military means are needed to defeat the aggressors.
