MAGISTRATE'S COURT AT TEMUKA

MOTORIST FINED £2O FOR INTOXICATION A plea of guilty of being Intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car was entered by Percy Hendry, a baker, of CJeraldine, when he appeared before Messrs H. E. Gapper. J.P., and T. L> Bussell, J.P., in the Magistrate's Court at Temuka. He was fined £2O and had his driver's licence suspended for two years, a condition of the sentence being that he take out a prohibition order against himself.

Sergeant M. E. Hill said that on Saturday afternoon, at Washdyke, Traffic Inspector W. Tait was patrolling the main road and saw a car travelling north in an erratic manner. Overtaking and stopping the car, he found the driver, Hendry, In an advanced state of intoxication. Later, a doctor certified his condition. Oh a previous occasion he had been warned at Geraldine for being drunk. Some time ago he had two serious accidents, but had never appeared before the Court. In making a plea for leniency, Mr F. J. Smith said that the Bench when fixing the penalty should not take into consideration his condition at Geraldine nor the accidents which had been detailed, as Henry had never been before the Court previously. Defendant was sorry for his mistake and was prepared to take out a prohibition order against himself.
