CANTERBURY BRANCH OFFICERS
CLOSE VOTING RECORDED
Close voting marked the annual election of officers of the Canterbury branch of the Federation of Labour. Both the president (Mr H. McCaw) and the vice-president (Mr G. T. Thurston) had fairly narrow majorities. The meeting was held last week, but the results of the elections have not been officially announced although the Auckland Federation announced the results immediately after the polls were taken last week.
Unofficial figures of the voting for the Canterbury Federation are:—President—H. McCaw 42, J. Johnson (N.Z. Workers’ Union) 36. Vice-president— G. T. Thurston 41, F. L. Langley 37. Executive—T. Shankland (General Labourers’ Union) 45. T, Martin (Seamen’s Union) 42, R. Jones (Engineers’ Union) 40, W. White (Waterside Workers’ Union) 40, A. B. Grant (A.S.R.S.) 38, J. Cox (Engineers’ Union) 38, F. L. Langley was next on the list, with 37 votes. National Council—G. T. Thurston 39, F. L. Langley 29.
