CASH BALANCE OF £920

♦ AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL BALANCE-SHEET The audited balance-sheet fpr the year ended March 31, 1940, was received by the Akaroa County Council at its monthly meeting at Duvauchelle, and approved. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £B2O in the form of a cash balance. The clerk (Mr C. Stewart) reported that the cash balance for the last year at March 31, was £505. He said in future riding accounts would not be shown in the balance-sheet. The council approved of the balance-sheet and it was decided that the council books should show riding accounts separately and rates collected in ridings would be expended in those ridings. Cr. O. A. Thelning reported he had inspected the Le Bon’s Bay wharf shed and recommended it should be insured for £l5O, instead of the previous cover of £3OO. He said that the shed which was two miles from any residence, had been badly knocked about by campers. They had lit fires on the concrete floor, burnt the lining of the shed, and fired rifles through the roof. It was decided to have the shed securely locked up. so that no one could gain entrance to it. The Public Works Department notified that finality had not been reached with the Wairewa County Council in regard to the taking over of the Christchurch-Akaroa highway maintenance. The matter of bridge replacement and maintenance was under consideration by the Main Highways Board and when a decision was reached the taking over of the highway would not be long delayed. The Okains Bay Domain Board wrote that a fairly large area of land had been built up on the Okain’s Bay beach by the action of the sea and the approval of the council was sought for the closing of the present dedicated unformed 'road for one further down the beach. It was decided to approve of the closing of the road and dedicating of the new road one chain from high-water mark, as shown by the plan submitted. The financial position showed receipts since last meeting were £867 14s lid, accounts passed for payment £B7O 12s 3d, leaving a debit balance of £1125 17s 9d.
