"DIFFICULT YEAR FOR FRUITGROWERS"

ASSOCIATION’S REPORT Because of bad weather, which made grading of .fruit difficult, lowered prices, and increased labour, costs, .the last- year has been, .from'the growers’ point of view, a very difficult one, states the- annual report, which will; be presented at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Fruit Growers Association to-morrow evening. As there was no export this- year, the Government was faced with marketing all the fruit in New Zealand, and as the Government scheme was based on export conditions it was necessary for Canterbury to place its position before the Government, the result being a petition circulated among growers an f d signed by practically 100 per cent., the report continues. iA , . ~ It has now been gazetted, continues the report, that the Government intends standardisation of stone fruits for the coming' season, but this is a matter that could be held over until after the war. At n6 time in the history of fruitgrowing has greater cooperation been necessary between . the grower and the association, and , this should be the spirit in the future, concludes the report.
