CHILDREN BURNED TO DEATH

Sir, —Another report in “The Press” to-day of young children losing their lives through being left alone in the house calls for immediate attention to this question. Though much sympathy is due to the bereaved parents, and while in some cases there are extenuating circumstances, yet it is felt by many that the practice of leaving small children unattended should be regarded as a criminal offence and punishable by law. It would then be the duty of every citizen to report any case in point, and many of these far too frequent tragedies would thus be avoided. Young lives were never .more precious than they are to-day, and we do not know what our children may yet be called .upon to face. We can at least protect*them from the results of our own carelessness.—Yours, etc., M. V. L. ENSOR, G. M. ENSOR. Domett, April 26, 1941.
