Mowbray Tripp exhorted members of the Canterbury branch of the Victoria League to work whole-heartedly for the war effort. As president of the branch. Mrs Tripp was addressing the annual meeting at Beath's on Thursdav afternoon. there was a record attendance. The annual report showed - that members had done much useful work during the year. Money, knitted goods, and food had been sent to England for distribution. Members had helped at the soldiers’ inquiry bureau, at the Welcome Club, and on Poppy Day, and had knitted for the Patriotic Council. Mrs F. L. Scott and her sewing committee hao made 500 hussifs for soldiers at Burnham, and Miss M. Skoglund and helpers had made woollen goods to send overseas, The young contingent, of which Mrs J. K. Hardy is president, and Miss Margaret Brinkman is honorary secretary, had had a busy year. The canteen committee, convened by Miss Relda Duncan, the sewing bee. under Miss Sylvia Scott, the knitting bee under Miss Margaret Porritt. and the decorations committee under Miss Barbara Greenwood, had done regular weekly work. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a satisfactory credit balance.

A vote-of thanks to Mrs Tripp was carried amid applause, and Mrs Tripp expressed gratitude to her committee especially to Mrs W. S. Bean, deputychairwoman, Mrs Skaglund, secretary, and Mrs Scott, Mrs R. H. Hennah, Mr A. Vere Winchester, honorary treasured, and Dr. T. Leslie Crooke; who played piano solos before the business meeting. Officers were elected as follows; President, Mrs Tripp; honorary treasurer, Mr Winchester; vice-presidents, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. Dr. T. L. Crooke, Lady Acland, Mesdames W. S. Beaan E. Hogg, George Gould, H. T. J. Thacker, J. G. L. Vernon, R. H. Hennah, and Miss Rose Tabart; committee, the Mayoress, Lady Clark-Hall, Mesdames L. A. Bennett, Oakleigh Greenwood F. Scott, H, S. Vestey, E. Rhodes, J. K. Hardy, D. P. Dickinson, Misses B Gould, A. Gandy, and N. Northcroft, Mrs M. Bethell, Mrs A. K. Firth, Mrs A. P. Boyle, Mr E. Cocks.

ENGAGEMENTS Mr and Mrs W. S. E. Moyle, of Christchurch, announce the engagement of their only daughter, Katherine Margaret, to Staff-Sergeant William Albert Staff, N.Z.P.S. (Burnham), only son of Mrs E. Staff, of Christchurch.
