GUESTS AT WELCOME CLUB
At the Welcome Club, Lichfield street, yesterday afternoon, the women’s general committee of the club entertained country members of affiliated societies, who, on many occasions, have done yeoman service in extending hospitality to men of the armed forces. The Mayoress, Mrs R. M. Macfarlane, who was presented with a bouquet by the country visitors, welcomed the guests and thanked them for the help they had given the club. As chairwoman of the general committee she paid a warm tribute to the splendid work done by Mrs W. F. Kent-Johnston and her committee. Tea was served in the supper-room, Where the tables, with their blue cloths, were decorated with bowls of red flowers, fhe guests were then shown over the club rooms. The programme arranged by Mrs R. J. McLaren included songs sung by Mrs Irene Macdonald,. Miss Ailsa Crompton, and Miss Gertrude Ardagh, humorous items given by Mrs W. H. Collins, and an interesting lecturette by Mrs Berta Sinclair Burns. Mrs J. H. Cocks was accompanist and Mr Trevor Hutton played a flute obbligato to Miss Ardagn’s songs.
