INQUEST ON ORARI FARMER

DEATH BY DROWNING

“There is no doubt that he met his death by drowning,” said the Coroner (Mr H. Morgan, S.M.) yesterday afternoon after evidence had been heard at an inquest into the death of George Alfred Kain, single, a farmer of Orari, who was found in a creek at his home at Orari on April 1, The Coroner said that the evidence showed that Kain, who had served in the last war, was in illhealth and had worried because of his inability, through health, to seifre in this war. Dr. Mail, who had attended him. had no reason to believe he was likely to take his life, and his brother said he was not a man likely to do that. It was his habit to inspect the creek to see that stock were not in trouble, and he had lost a pheasant which had been seen near the creek. He had been subject to giddy turns and “black outs,” and possibly he had a “black out” and fell into the-creek. There were no clear indications of either suicide or accident, and he would not be justified in bringing in a verdict of suicide.

Evidence was given by Dr. L. Carrington Mail (Geraldine), Carlton Kain (a of Orari), and Constable A. Hamm (Temuka). Mr N. W. Allan (Dunedin) appeared for Mr Carlton Kain.
