GIFT FROM CHINESE
£lO for Patriotic Fund
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 8. A patriotic note was struck by a Chinese-of Te Aroha in a recent letter to the Customs Department, Wellington. He enclosed a donation of £lO and had something to say about Herr Hitler. Although his precise meaning is not clear, the indication is given strongly in his own picturesque way that he has no affection for the German ruler. * Advice of receipt of the £lO from the Chinese, and of his desire that it should be used to provide for New Zealand soldiers, was received by the National Patriotic Fund Board to-day from the Customs Department. An extract from the letter by the Chinese runs: “I enclose please find £lO money order* gift the comfort for New Zealand soldiers. I hope enemy Hitler soon go his back.” A letter has been sent acknowledging receipt of the money order and thanking the Chinese for the contribution. This is not first time donations have been received from Chinese residents by the National Patriotic Fund Board. Representatives of other races living in the Dominion, notably Greeks and Jugoslavs, have also made donations to patriotic funds. .
