Mr H. P. Bridge is in Lewisham Hospital, where he underwent a serious operation. He is making satisfactory progress. The staff of the Paparua County Council met recently to say farewell to Mr Hugh Conway, who had been water-race overseer to the council for the last 24 years, A presentation of a case of pipes from the outside staff was made by Miss A. I. Freeman, the County Clerk, The office staff made him a presentation of a morocco pouch. Mr C. H. Johnstone, who has been appointed countinghouse manager of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., Dunedin, will be succeeded at the Christchurch house of the firm by Mr' L. H. Dear (Dunedin).

Dr. W. P. Morrell, Reader in History in the University of London (Birkbeck College), has been elected a member of the Council of the Royal Empire Society and appointed chairman of the society’s Library Committee in succession to Sir T. Drummond Shiels. The Royal Empire Society Library is the most important library of Imperial history, containing a quarter of a million books and pamphlets. Dr. Morrell is a son of Mr W. J. Morrell, Chancellor Qt Otago University.
