FREE HOSPITAL TREATMENT
TO IBX EDITOS Of THE PRESS. Sir, —In your paper of February 18 appeared a letter from an old lady receiving social security payment who had been in the Public Hospital, stating that £1 a week had been deducted from her pension by the Hospital Board while she was a patient. I am told by a lodge secretary that this _is because she does not pay any social security tax, 5s a quarter. If this is ■so, why arc old-age pensioners not informed that if they apply for exemption they debar themselves from a free bed in hospital, as I think' all would pay £1 a year to get free hospital treatment. I know persons of means who have been in hospital who have not been asked to pay one penny. —Yours, etc., ANXIOUS FOR INFORMATION. February 20. 1941,
