Mrs W. J. le Cren (Leinster road) will return to-day from a three weeks’ holiday spent at Kairaki beach. She arrived for the capping ceremony last week at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, where her son graduated Bachelor of Agricultural Science. Mr and Mrs J. G. Lancaster (Wellington) are visiting Mr G. J. Lancaster and Miss E. Lancaster at Governor’s Bay. Mr and Mrs William Copping have returned to Timaru, after a short visit to Mrs F. Copping, Halswell, for the Copping-Dawson wedding on Saturday. Misses Jean Campion, Ruth Sandrey (Highbank), Noeline Wright, and Ella Chamberlain (Dunsandel) have left for Nelson, Mrs Mays, president of the. North Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes, passed through Christchurch yesterday on her way to Wellington to attend to federation business. Miss Elizabeth Coleman, who has been the guest of Mrs Townsend, Mount Pleasant, has returned to her home in North Canterbury, Mrs F. B. Jepson has arrived in Christchurch from California, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs-Birkin-shaw, Victoria street. Her late husband was a well-known English novelist, and her only son, Mr Selwyn Jepson, has had considerable success as a novelist and playwilght. As part of Bishop Brodie's episcopal silver jubilee celebrations now being held lii Christchurch, Pontifical Hign Mass for the children was celebrated at the Catholic Cathedral, Barbadoes street, yesterday morning. The catnedral was crowded with children and a combined choir from the Catholic schools of the city sang the music of the Mass. The sermon was preached by Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, A.terwards the children gave a programme in the grounds at the bishop’s house, Exhibitions of marching were given by the pupils of Villa Maria, folk dancing by pupils of St. Mary’s -Convent, part-songs by pupils of the Convent of the Sacred Heart (Ferry road), and a gymnastic display by the boys of the Marist Brothers’ School. A presentation was made to Bishop Brodie on behalf of the children 01 the diocese. The Bishop, in acknowledging the gill, mentioned that the lace on the rochet he was wearing was a jubilee gift from Chinese children who are pupils of the Sisters of the Mission in China. Later in the day Bishop Brodie and the visiting church dignitaries visited Mount Magdala and Nazareth House. Mothers, wives, and next-of-kin of Akaroa soldiers serving overseas were entertained by Mrs J. E. Armstrong (“Mount Clair,” Akaroa) at an enjoyable party held in the garden of the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs K R. E. Davis, Akaroa, Tea was served on the lawn, pride of placw; on the tea table being given to* a birthday cake to mark the twenty-first birthday anniversary, that day, of Mr and Mrs Armstrong’s youngest son, Corporal lan Armstrong, who is in Egypt. Games and competitions were played, gifts from soldiers were shown, letters were read and nhotographs were exchanged. Mrs W. M. Jaccbson. on 'behalf of the guests, thanked Mrs Armstrong for her hospitality. Competitions were won by Mrs W, A. Newton (putting), Mrs J. Churchill (ping pong ball). Mrs Ruru (quoits), Mesdames T. Masefield and W. E. M. Jacobson (animal competition).
