The United States Secretary of the Navy (Colonel Frank Knox) told a press conference that the British aircraft-carrier Illustrious was recently able to reach Malta and then Alexandria under her own power after a direct hit by a 10001b bomb. The bomb killed 80 men and destroyed 30 aeroplanes, but it did .not affect the ship’s navigability or power.
