RUGBY IN EGYPT
NEW ZEALAND TEAM DOES WELL Egyptian newspapers give high praise to the New Zealand Army Rugby team, which beat a team drawn from the Officers’ Cadet Training Uhit —also containing several New Zealanders—by 5 points* to 0, at the Gezira Sporting Club recently. The teams contain many names familiar to New Zealand Rugby enthusiasts. Lieutenant W. E. Alexander, of New Plymouth, and formerly of Christchurch, who played for Christchurch Boys’ High School, Canterbury College, and Canterbury, has sent clippings from the local press dealing with the match. "It was a storming pack that carried the New Zealanders to victory. Of its kind, the match was a great one. a robust struggle of ceaseless aggression between two powerful sides, with the New Zealanders playing typical Dominion Rugger,” says a writer. “Every man' in the winning fifteen played his part.” The forwards followed up relentlessly, and were a grand eight, led by Hegglun, the hooker, who played a grand game for . Wellington against Canterbury last season. Anderson, of Auckland, a former All Black emergency, N. J. McPhail and Francis, two Canterbury men, were mentioned as Hegglun’s most able assistants. P. K. Rhind and M. Gomez, also well known in Christchurch, were in the pack. Moorhead (Taranaki), Hatton (South Canterbury), Wild, and McGinnis were mentioned as outstanding backs. In the O.C.T.U. team, consisting of English and Dominion troops, Uttley, a winger, and brother of K. F. M. Uttley, the New Zealand cricket reprei sentative, and Masefield were the New Zealand representatives. The teams were:— New Zealand—Private McGinnis; Lieutenant Carnachan, Lieutenant Wild, Lieutenant Stubbs; Lieutenant Hatton, Sergeant Collins; Sergeant
