SIGN OF TAKAHE
CONFERENCE CALLED BY MINISTER After an inspection of the Sign of the Takahe building on Saturday, the Minister for Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, asked the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr R. M. Macfarlane, to call a conference to discuss whether arrangements can be made for the completion and control of the work the're. The conference, which will be attended by all interested parlies, will oe held at Warner’s Hotel this morning. Mr Nash, who was accompanied on the inspection by the Mayor and the Deputy-Mayor. Mr J. S. Barnett, showed keen interest in the building and the surroundings. No work is now being done there, the Summit Road Trust being unable to find further money for materials. It has been estimated that it would lake approximately £2OOO to finish the job. If money cannot be found there is every prospect of the building reverting to the mort-gage-holders.
