OLD MAIDS what’s become of them ? In the years gone by “Old Maids” represented a definite and distinct class easily recognisable by everybody. In those past days a certain amount of contumely was associated with the term “Old Maid” . . . quite unjustifiably, because in actual fact as a class they were like their sistren of to-day, always ready and willing with sympathetic understanding to help everybody near to them along the path of the journey through Hfe. You don’t see “Old Maids” to-day ! What has become of them all ? Things have changed. Firstly, the spirit of wdfrnen has improved. The “defeatist” outlook created by an increasing succession of birthdays is no longer tolerated. Old-time prejudices against powder, a touch of rouge and lipstick, have vanished. Women of 40 look 30. Women of 30 look 24 or 25. And at 50 they still feel young and look young. A similar state of affairs exists with clothing to-day. Whereas years ago really good frocks and costumes were discarded when they acquired grime and lost shape with wear, to-day they are sent to Taylor’s and come back looking like new again. In fact, they are better than the new clothes you buy to-day, because to-day you cannot buy materials of the quality available a year and more ago. Womenfolk no longer worry over a new frock or costume or overcoat. They know that Taylor’s Expert Gleaning and Pressing, Taylor’s highly technical Dyeing and, if need be, a few simple alterations, will change last years garments, and those of the year before, into something as smart and certainly of better quality than the “new things” of to-day. Womenfolk are as alive as Menfolk to the great gain they make by going through their wardrobes and picking out and sending to Taylor’s discarded garments of good materials. Everybody has “frozen assets” in their wardrobes that are turned into good “currency” by sending to Taylor’s . . . and “To-day is Monday” ... have a look through your wardrobe and then ’phone Taylor’s to call . . . 31-820 is the magic number . . . Dial 31-820 and Taylor's will send for your work. Like many others, you may prefer to leave your work at Taylor’s Factory, 57-59 Kilmore Street, or at Taylor’s City Depot, 678 A Colombo Street, opposite Ballantynes.
