STAFF TALKS

AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. OFFICERS (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, September 19. A proposal that stall talks should be held between the Chiefs of the New Zealand Naval, General, and Air Staffs and the Chiefs of the respective Australian staffs was approved recently by the Government and agreed to by the Commonwealth Government, announced the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) to-day. The purpose of these talks is to allow informal but full discussions in all matters of defence. Major-General Sir John Duigan and Group Captain H. W. L. Saunders, Chief of the Air Staff, left New Zealand on Tuesday last for Melbourne, where they nave now arrived. Commodore W. E. Parry, Chief of the Naval Staff, took the opportunity, when in Australia recently, of discussing with the Chief of tn Commonwealth Naval Staff all matters of common concern regarding nav defence. , The Government attaches the great est importance to the maintenance full and effective liaison between ne Chiefs of Staff of the two countries, concluded Mr Jones.
