OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, September 19. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Strong north-westerly to westerly winds to gales, changing to south-westerly during the day. Weather fair to Sub and warm at first, but some showers probable with the wind change. Seas moderate. ' WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong - north-west- \ erly to westerly winds. Weather ' unsettled, with intermittent rain or drizzle. Temperatures mild. Seas rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather unsettled in Westland, with intermittent rain and drizzle; elsewhere fair to fine at first, but scattered showers extending later to eastern districts of the South Island, and to districts west of the main ranges of the North Island. Temperatures mild, but becoming ! cooler in the south. Pressure is J high over the North Tasman Sea 1 and northern New Zealand. A vigorous depression is centred south-west of the South Island. Winds—From a westerly quarter prevailing, strong to gale force at times from Cook Strait southwards; but otherwise moderate; later a more definite change to south-west extending over the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Moderate north of Kawhia and inshore on the east coast; elsewhere rough, and becoming very rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to strong north-westerly winds in the northern portion, with rather rough seas. A change to strong south-west-erlies in the central and southern portions during to-night, with rough to very rough seas. •

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and warm yesterday with a moderate north-west wind, which freshened towards evening. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and a fresh southwest wind was blowing, The temperature was 60 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.94 inches (1919.9 millibars).
