— * SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS The concluding contests of the South Island table tennis ■ championships were held last evening, when M. Friend, of Otago, with an unusual style of play and fast drives, took the men’s singles championship from F- Paton, of Auckland, the holder for two years. Paton and Brien (Auckland) beat Meier and Levenbach in the doubles. Results were;— Men’s Singles—Semi-finals; F. Paton (Auckland) beat Fogarty (Otago), 21-10, 21-14. 21-15; M. Friend (Otago) beat Brown. 21-17. 21-13. 9-21. 21-17. Final; Friend beat Paton, 21-12, 21-18, 16-21, 21-14. Men’s Doubles—Second round (continued): Fogarty and Friend (Otago) beat Seville and Cowper, 21-10, 21-15, 22-20: Levenbach and D.
