FIRST BALLOT SOON
WAR STRENGTH FOR TERRITORIALS i STATEMENT BY CHIEF OF ! GENERAL STAFF (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGBA'M.) AUCKLAND. August 27. The statement that the first ballot under conscription would probably be held next month was made to-r.ight by (he Chief of the General Staff (MajorGeneral Sir John Duigan) while addressing troops of the Auckland Battalion, National Reserve, after inspecting them at the ‘drill hall. Sir John Duigan explained later that the ballot would be held in the near future to bring the territorial force up to war establishment. Other details were not yet available.
