YIELDS FROM TIMBER PLANTATIONS
SELWYN BOARD’S RETURNS Mention of a splendid return of 4.143,966 super feet of timber from a plantation in Steel’s road was made by Mr E; A. Cooney (superintendent) in a report to the Selwyn Plantation Board yesterday morning. He said that although the block was 80 acres the timber milled came from 50 acres, since 23 acres were planted in larch, birch, and oaks, and seven acres of insigniS which were blown down. The trees were only 48 years old and the yield could be considered very satisfactory. The output of the Selwyn casewoods mill had fallen, as was usual at this period, but from orders received for the season’s cutting it seemed that it would be a busy year. About 207,600 super feet of milled timber was disposed of at a royalty of £271 2s 7d. Of 134 cords of firewood cut, 95 cords had been sold. The sale of 4613 stakes brought the total for four months to 15,000 feet.
