VISITING SAILORS ENTERTAINED
WORK OF CHRISTCHURCH ORGANISATIONS At a dance in the Durham Street Art Gallery last evening the Christchurch Welcome Club entertained more than 200 officers and men of the merchant service. The Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) welcomed the . men, and thanked on their behalf the Automobile Association (Canterbury), the Navy League, the British Sailors’ Society, and the Welcome Club, lor work for visiting sailors. Musical items | were given during the evening. On Saturday evening a number oi I visiting sailors were the guests of the ©resident of the Navy League at the I Majestic Theatre, and private enler- : tainment was arranged for others. As 1 a vesture of appreciation, the league i has sent 16 boxes of Canterbury butter j for distribution to the sailors as a supplementary lalion. Every one on board I from the captain to the most fumor j rating will receive two pounds of butter. This gift has been most gratefully received.
