* OFFICIAL FORECASTS , [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. August 1. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate and variable winds. Weather cloudy and cool, but improving. Seas slight. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light variable winds. Weather fair to fine and cool. Seas slight. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;— Weather mainly fair and cool, but mist or drizzle in eastern districts between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, and in a few isolated places elsewhere. Conditions improving gradually, however, from the south. A weak depression is crossing the North Island, while an intense anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and the South Island. Pressure is High, also, to the east. Winds—From a southerly quarter predominating, force mainly light or moderate: but fresh to strong at first ■in parts of the southern half of the North Island, decreasing however, and later becoming variable in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough in Cook Strait and the Taranaki Bight region, slight to moderate elsewhere; risipg somewhat betweer] Castle Point and East Cape. The New Zealand Petroleum Company reports that the Morere well has reached a depth of 3930 feet. The formation is sandy shale.
