WEATHER IN JULY
RECORD WARMTH SINCE ' 1928 ’ The mean-tempera tore, for July. 42.57 degrees, although only slightly higher than normal, was the' highest tor the month since 1928, when the figure was 45.6„ according to the monthly report of the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory. July this year was the most sunny since 1937. and the rainfall , was . low. The following are the meteorological readings of the observatory:—. Barometer—Mean for monttn July, 30 1-7 inches: highest reading (on July 23). 30.354 inches; lowest reading (on July 12), 29 606 Temperatures in Shade—Mean for month. July. 42.57 degrees; highest reading (on July 31), 64.0 r degreest lowest-, reading (on Julv 10), 27.0 .degrees. , . . temperatures Exposed—Mean minimum on grass. 30.68 degrees: lowest reading (on July 10). 20.0 degrees Moisture—Mean daily amount ot cloud (0-10), 5.9; total rainfall for month, 1.93 inches: number of. rainy days. 14: heaviest fall (on July-26). 0.64-inch. • ■ Earth Temperatures—At a deptb of one foot. .40.28 degrees: at a depth otthree feet, 41.1 l degrees; at a depth of five feet, 41 Sunshfne—total amount.:: 132,5 hours; mean daily amount, 4.3 hours.
