Constable G. Roberts, who has just retired after 21 years’ service as officer in charge' of the Lower Riccarton Police Station, was met on Wednesday evening by Riccarton residents and presented with a wallet of bank notes. The speakers included Mr A. D. Ford, a former Mayor of Riccarton, who acted on behalf of the present Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P.), and Mr A. Gray. The silver acorn of the Boy Scouts Association has been awarded to Mr John Roland Middleton, of Wellington, for outstanding service to the movement. Cabled advice to this effect has been received by thfe Dominion headquarters of the movement from the Imperial headquarters in London. The silver acorn is awarded only for particularly distinguished service to scouting. Mr Middleton’s scout career has been long. He has served the movement in many important administrative capacities, and is considered to have contributed materially to the advancement of scouting in New Zealand.—Press Association.
