An anti-aircraft, shell brought down his aeroplane in German territory during the small hours of the morning, wounding his two companions. He burned the aeroplane and all the papers, bandaged his companions, and set off through ' the woods. Several times he heard German voices and hid in time. At dawn he reached the French lines when a French sentry" halted him. He tried to" ihihlt of ; th& proper re- . ply in French, but could not The sentry raised his rifle.-The airman remembered then the taxi-cab call. “Attepdez!” he shouted. The word delayed the sentry long enough for explanations to be made. >
