BIRD SHOW

A NOTABLE DISPLAY 950 ENTRIES JUDGED A very fine collection of cage birds Is to be seen at the Christchurch Canary and Cage Bird Club’s annual show, -which 'is being held in the Latimer (Choral) Hall. Judging of many interesting classes was begun yesterday. There’are*9so entries. which is more than 100 higher than last year’s figure. . „ The most spectacular display \s in. the foreign bird section, where some beautiful and rarely-seen birds are exhibited by Mr J. R. Smith—an Orange Troupial, the only one in Australia and New. Zealand, the African glossy starling, and the Virginian cardinal. Mr A. D. Walker exhibited another striking bird, a Gouldian finch, which is a small bird of many bright colours. A pair of peacocks exhibited by Mr A. E. R. Saville also attracted attention. The canary entries are up to standard, according to the judges, and some very fine birds are among them.' The same applies to the budgerigars, which include some albinos and lutinos.
