PROVISIONS OF NEW AWARD Clauses relating to definitions, hours, wages, overtime, holidays, newspaper offices, exclusion of executives, exemptions, and the scope of the award, were settled by the Arbitration Court in the New Zealand (except Canterbury) clerical workers’ dispute. The minimum wage for males under 16 years starting work is fixed at 17s 6d in the new award. This wage rises at half-yearly intervals to 55s after three and a half years. Males of more than 21 years will be paid £5 10s a week. Females more than 21 years will be paid £3 5s a week. The award will come into force on July 1, 1940, and will operate until July 1, 1942. Overtime will be paid for at time and a half, but ir, no case shall this be less than Is 6d an hour. Workers in newspaper companies’ offices are required - to work on any prescribed holiday, without extra payment, provided one day is added to the annual holidays for each holiday worked.
