MAGISTRATE'S COURT

FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.) REMANDED Charles Henry Hickson was remanded till July 1 on a charge of stealing 4s 3d, the property of Williamena Hills Kelly. Detective-Sergeant J>. McClung, asking for a remgpd, said that Hickson had been arrested by Detectives Cunningham and Alty. This was a minor charge against him. He had recently arrived from Australia and, under an assumed name, 'had been going round selling jars of a mixture made up by himself and purporting to cure rheumatism and such ailments. He had admitted himself that it was worth £2, but he had offered it for £l2, and had -educed it to £7 to effect a sale. Detective-Sergeant McClung added that Hickson’s modus operand! was not in accordance with the views of the law, and asked for substantial bail. Bail was allowed in the accused’s own recognisance of £ 100 and two sureties of £IOO. He was ordered to report daily to the police.
