STEAMER EXPRESS SERVICE
The Union Steam Ship Company advises that there will be no steamer express service between Lyttelton and Wellington to-day. There is a possibility of there being a daylight trip to-morrow, but the company cannot make a definite statement about this until to-night. With the steamer express service again cancelled last night, the Railways Department cancelled the 7.10 p.m. train to Lyttelton and the 7.37 p.m. express. The running of the train from the port to Christchurch at the usual arrival time of the steamer was cancelled yesterday morning, and will be cancelled again this morning. The signal that the port was closed, which had been made from the timeball signal station .at Lyttelton since midday on Wednesday, was withdrawn yesterday afternoon and the port is again open. Although at least three vessels were ready to depart during the evening, the respective shipping companies declined to permit them to sail. It is expected that several will sail to-day.
