WAR EFFORT DRIVE
TO THE EDITOR OE THE 'PRESS. Sir, —I have perused with interest the account in “The Press’’ this morning of the meeting held by citizens of Christchurch to aid recruiting. May I suggest that surely the best means of reaching the majority of the young folk is the radio. Where are the good old stirring marching songs, etc., of 1914-1918? Surely, too. instead of troubling so much about social justice, etc., within New Zealand at this time a good recruiting address to save New Zealand would be much more to the point. “First things first,’’ and when we are sure that New Zealand is saved from the Hun for New Zealanders, then carry on with internal strife and propaganda if needs must. It is quite possible to have the radio tuned in to
3ZB for 18 hours a day and scarcely realise there is a war being waged. Instead of a sports pre-view on Friday evening, how about a recruiting pre-view?—Yours, etc., RADIO. April 25, 1940.
