Yesterday afternoon at the annual meeting the FriQftds ol St. Hospital,- tnO chairman, Mr George Gould, expressed regret that Archbishop West-Watson was indisposed and unable to attend the meeting. It was decided to send the Archbishop the meetings congratulation' cn his elevation to the Primacy. Later, when Archbishop Averill announced that yesterday was Archbishop West-Watson s birthday it was decided to send him birthday greetings from the meeting. The Danish Consul (Mr Slronach Paterson) arrived from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday morning. The Bishop of Nelson (the Rt. Rev. W. G. Hilliard), who will leave New Zealand for Australia in a fortnight’s time, will pay a Visit to Christchurch next Sunday, When he Will preach at the Masonic jubilee service in the afternoon at he Cathedral. Sir Llndo Ferguson arrived from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr Featherstone, whose health was toasted with musical honours, returned thanks for the kindly remarks and gift and expressed his regret at his severance with Addington after so many years of service there. The official who has been responsible for the catering arrangements of all special tours on the New Zealand Railways sinee 1924, Mr F. Lindsay, comptroller of the refreshment branch, has retired on superannuation after 36 years of service with the department. Mr Lindsay was associated with the lour in 192? of the present King and Queen, then Duke and Duchess of York, and also with the Duke of Gloucester’s tour In 1934-35. He also took a prominent part In the arrangements made in Hawke’s Bay after the disastrous earthquake of 1931. All services were disorganised in Napier and the Government appointed him food controller in that area. When the Government Stores Control Beard was established several years ago Mr Lindsay was appointed foodstuffs purchasing officer for various Government departments throughout New Zealand. Sinee the outbreak of war last September he has been assisting in the Internal Marketing Division and, has been associated with the purchase and distribution of food supplies for the defence services and other Government departments.—Press Association.
