* CHARTERIS BAY GOLF CLUB The first three rounds of the Armstrong Cup. a two-ball match for men held by the Charteris Bay Golf Club, resulted:—First Tound: A. K. Dyne and A. Manson beat C. Williams, carried the flag to the eighteenth green. Mrs R. - Candy was runner-up. y Diamond Harbour Golf Club The Diamond Harbour Golf .Club held a medal match for men. The match was won by T. A. Mahar (74 net). J. J. E. Osborn (75 net) was runner-up. A medal match in conjunction with the Jackson Cup was held for women, and resulted:— Miss J. Snedden 85 net. Miss I. Cleary 89 net. Personal Mr D. Manson, formerly of Kaikoura. has joined the staff of the Lyttelton District High School as assistant headmaster, succeeding Mr H. W. D. Blake, who is serving with the New Zealand Forces in Egypt Labour Party Meeting At the annual meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party Mr A. Austin presided, and moved the following motion, which was carried;—“We the members of the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, at this meeting, express s our heartfelt sorrow at the loss of our beloved leader, the Rt. Hon. M. J. I Savage. Prime Minister of New Zealand. We desire to place on record our appreciation of his life’s work on . behalf of the people of this country, and pledge ourselves to carry on the i great humanitarian mission to which Mr Savage’s life was dedicated.” i The following motion, moved by Mr T. White, was also carried:—“ That this meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party records its appreciation of the work done by the Hon. Peter Fraser during the period of the illness of our late leader, the Rt Hon. M. J. Savage, and pledges him our support and co-operation as leader of our movement, to carry on the great work to which Mr Savage’s life was dedicated.” Election of officers resulted:—President. Mr W. Watersiders’ Ballot At the ballot taken by the Lyttelton branch of the Watersiders' Union on Thursday and Friday last week the following additional officers ' were elected:-—Disputes committee (ships’ section), Messrs W. Laing arid W. Evans; delegates to Federation of Labour, Messrs J. 1 Flood, W. Laing, T. A. 'WTnite, and T. Hill; general committee (ships’ section), Messrs W. Evans, W. Martin, E. Marshall, P. Ryan, T. A. White, T. Hill; general committee (railway section), Messrs J. L. Bains, B. Ashworth, D. McFarlaner dis. putes (railway section). Mr J. L. Bains. Mr W. Laing was elected president unopposed at the annual meeting held on April 10 and Mr J. Flood was returned as secretary. A fresh ballot will be held for the vice-presidency shortly. Harbour Employees’ Social A social evening was held by the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Harbour Board Employees’ Union in the Labour Hall on Saturday night, with Mr J. Geayley presiding. A presentation of a leather suitcase was made to Mr T. A. Austin, the retiring president of the branch, by Mr S. W. Lane, secretary to the branch, on be- • half of the members. Mr D. Wallace, retiring vice-president, received a leather wallet. Responding to the toast of ‘‘The Government,” Mr R. Cairns. Government nominee on the Lyttelton Harbour Board, wished every success to employees retiring from the board’s ser- - vice and to enlisted employees. Other j toasts were; “The King,” “The Transport Workers,” “The Forces,” “The Artists.” and “The Lady Helpers.” Mr C. Bridger proposed the health of Mr C. Pocock. who is leaving to ' take up farming, and of Mr D. Prosser, who is retiring after 40 years of service. One of the musical items was by Chief Gunner Douglas, from an overseas vessel in port, who played selections on the accordion. 5 Anzac Day The Lyttelton branch of the Re- 1 turned Soldiers’ Association will take 7

part in a dawn parade, at Christchurch on the morning of Anzac Day. Arrangements have been made for a' train to leave Lyttelton at 5.50 a.m. The Lyttelton Marine Band will lead the parade from the Christchurch Railway station. Returned men and citizens have been invited to attend. The speaker at the Anzac day service to be held at Lyttelton will be Canon S. Parr. The parade for returned men will assemble at 10 a.m. and march from the Lvttelton Marine Band rooms.
