AUCKLAND WEST SEAT
BY-ELECTION ON MAY 18 NO NOMINATIONS YET RECEIVED IPRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, April 22. The by-election in the Auckland West electorate, made necessary by the death of Mr Savage, has been fixed for Saturday, May 18. Nominations close on May 1. The rolls closed this afternoon, when the number of enrolled voters in the electorate was 16,353. No nominations had been received by the returning officer to-day. The official Labour choice of candidate will be announced on Wednesday night. It has been stated that the Communist Party will put forward a candidate. The attitude of the National Party has so far not been defined.
