The Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin), who is a patient in the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, was reported last evening to have spent a comfortable day, Mr Lee Martin went into hospital on Sunday. Mr W, L. Graham, L.D.S., R.C.S. (Edin.), has been appointed lecturer in dental prosthetics at Auckland University College in succession to Mr J. H. Kinnear, who has joined the military forces. Mr Graham is in charge of the Auckland Hospital Board’s dental clinic. The Christchurch City Council last evening appointed a member of Its staff, Mr R. W. Black, to the position of assistant accountant. He will fill the vacancy caused through the promotion of Mr M. Hosking to the position of city accountant. Mr Black has been with the council for eight years. Captain Reginald E. Wallis, who visited Christchurch last year and had to return to England on account of ill-health, has suffered a further serious relapse, according to a cablegram received last week. " Because of his retirement from the position of Town Clerk, Mr J. S. Neville has resigned as a City Sinking Fund Commissioner. His place will be taken by the new Town Clerk, Mr H. S. Feast. Mr R. McPherson, Controller of Wheat and Flour, left last night by steamer express on a visit to Taranaki. The staff of the Butler Timber Company, Ltd,, Riccarton, bade farewell to Mr W. T. House, whose retirement after 15 years as manager of the company has just taken effect Mr C. E. Trippner, the present manager, presented Mr and Mrs House with a handsome oak dropside tea waggon suitably inscribed, and a silver teapot. Mr F. Langbein, who has been appointed engineer to the Main Highways Board, left for Wellington last night to attend a meeting of the .board. He will return to Christchurch tomorrow and will leave finally for Wellington next Monday. Mr E. Casey, general manager of railways, left for the north last night after a visit to Timaru. Mr Frank Morgan will leave Christchurch this evening to represent the Canterbury Limbless Association at the dawn parade on Anzac Day in Wellington. Members of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association stood in silence at their meeting last evening as a mark of respect to the memory'of two of their former members who have died recently, Messrs G. Aldridge and F. Harwood.
