SELWYN PLANTATION BOARD
. REPORT ON ACTIVITIES /To maintain the board’s milling and Jogging programme of 2,500,000 ft a year it will be necessary to cut over Kearne’s plantation which is scheduled for logging this year, reported the acting-superintendent (Mr E. A. Cooney), at a meeting of the Selwyn plantation .Board yesterday. Mr Cooney suggested that tenders be called for logging the insignia on this 47-year-old plantation, which ■ contains about 1,500,000 feet of pinus insignis surrounding 55--acres-of larch. It was decided to hold over the suggestion for six months. The chairman (Mr N. C. Kensington) presided. ' Autumn growth would be stimulated by the recent rain, continued the report, and the heavy fall would allow swamp ploughing at Burnham to be carried but successfully. The total rainfall to. date this year was 7.59 m, ■compared with 3.82 in last year. A report of the milling operations for the period showed that’ 143,910 ft had been milled, the royalty amounting to £2OB 12s. It was decided to call tenders for improvements to the residence and outbuildings at the Darfield headquarters. The board decided to grant £ls to the .Ellesmere County Council for improvements to the firebreaks in the district , •
