Mrs C. C. S. Parker (“Holbrook” Station, Mackenzie Country), who was staying with her mother, Mrs R. L. Wigley, has returned home. Miss Hester Wigley and Miss Mary Bridges, who have been nursing in England, have been called up for service in. Palestine with the Queen Alexandra Auxiliary Nursing Division.
WOMEN WAR WORKERS
ANNUAL REUNION
The annual meeting and reunion of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Overseas Women War Workers’ Association was held on Saturday night in the Canterbury Women’s Club rooms. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: I—President. 1 —President. Miss A. Buckley, A.R.R.C., vice-presidents, Dr. Jessie Scott, Miss F. Wilson, R.R.C., Miss E. Wilson, and Miss E. Hodges, A.R.R.C.; committee, Mesdames Horne and Copelrmd, Misses Rogers, Harman, and Christmas, A.R.R.C. Following .the business meeting a social gathering was held. An amusing one-act play produced by Mr Clive Moody was greatly enjoyed. The players were Mrs H. Wyatt, Misses Marijean Edmonds, Joan Grade, Pat Simpson. Mr Moody and Mr Eric Cqrdery. Songs were sung by Mrs Tristram Willcox, with Miss Victoria Butler as accompanist, and duets by Misses Lawrie, Hay, and Margot Dallison, with Miss Suzanne Dallison as accompanist. Before supper was served Miss F. Wilson thanked all who had provided the pleasant entertainment. Those present were Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson (patron). Miss Buckley, Miss F. Wilson, Miss M. G. Havelaar, Mr and Mrs J. L. Hay, Mr and Mrs W. Copeland, Mrs Wright, Miss L. Wilson, Miss E. Wilson, Miss Huddlestone, Miss Glynes. Miss J. Erwin, Miss L. M, Trumble, Miss M. Christmas, Miss M. Nixon, Miss I. Munro, Mrs L- Barnett (Southbridge), Miss Hiatt. Canon and Mrs Stephen Parr, Mrs J. Findlay, Mrs Young, Mrs F. Horne, Dr. Jessie Scott, Miss Metherell, Miss D. Harman, Miss C. Rogers. . , A Honoured guests were Sir Hugh Acland, Colonel and Mrs E. T. Rowllings, Mr C. de Renzy, Mr and Mrs E. F. Willcox, Mrs R. J. McLaren, Mr and Mrs O’Brien, Miss A. C. Fleming, and Misses Healy, Price, and Friis (Burnham) .
PRE-WEDDING PARTY
To honour Miss Kathleen Purser, whose marriage will take place soon, a linen shower party was tendered her at the home of Mrs T. Jenkins. Competitions were won by Mrs P. Cndge, Mrs J. Robb, Mrs Evison, and Miss Dorothy Holland. Those present were Miss Kathleen Purser, Mrs A. Purser, Miss E. Purser, Mesdames Cridge, sen., R. Williams, J. Robb, C. Evison; F. Cridge, W. McKay, T. Jenkins, J. Reardon. A. Bringans. L. Rutledge, Miss Jenkins, and Miss D. Holland.
