The Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), accompanied by Mrs Fraser and his chief private secretary (Mr C. A. Jeffrey), attended the centennial celebrations at Akaroa on Saturday and returned north in the evening. The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) returned to Christchurch last night from a 10-day southern tour. The Minister, who is accompanied by Mrs Semple and Mr J. W. Nissen (private secretary), will leave for Wellington to-night. The Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) spent the week-end in Christchurch and will return north by to-night’s steamer express. With him are his private secretary (Mr S. Y. Jones) and Mr A. J. Ridler (head of the Employment Division of the Labour Department). The High Commissioner for the United Kingdom (Sir Harry Batterbeel attended the centennial celejbralions at Akaroa on Saturday. The Consul for France (M. A. Pouquet) was present at the Akaroa centennial celebrations on Saturday and Sunday. The Hon. T. Bloodworth, the Hon. J. McLeod, the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, the Hon. M. Briggs, and the Hon. T. Brindle, members of the Legislative Council, arrived from the north by the steamer express on Saturday morning. The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton), accompanied by Mrs Hamilton, spent Saturday at Akaroa and returned to Christchurch in the evening. Captain A. N. Grigg and Messrs A. H. Nordmeyer, F. W. Schramm. S. G. Holland. R. McKeen, F. W. Doidge, J. Thom, W. J. Broadfoot, T. L. Macdonald. J. G. Barclay, B. Roberts, L. G. Lowry, and E. B. Gordon, members of Parliament, arrived from the north on Saturday morning to attend the Akaroa centennial celebrations. Colonel N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning and returned north the sams evening. • Mr T. M. Hinkley, manager of the United Press Association, arrived from the North Island on Saturday morning. The chairman of the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club (Mr A. S. El worthy), returned from the North Island by steamer express on Saturday morning. Mr E. B. Gordon, M.P. for Rangitlkei, will arrive at Ashburton this morning and will inspect the irrigation work along with other visiting members of Parliament. Mr Gordon will attend meetings of the National Party at Ashburton and Wakanui this evening. The board appointed to have control of the Mount Pleasant Domain is gazetted as follows: —Messrs W. C. de Thier, F. A. Roche, A. G. Williams, F. Gill. A. C. Sandston, E. L. Neale. Edward Brook, E. S. Parish, and W. L. King. Ivir R. C. Ruffin has been appointed an inspector of mines and of quarries for the mining districts of Karamea, Marlborough, and Westlapd.
