WORKERS' EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION

TWENTX-SIXTH SESSION OPENED The need of maintaining the freedom inherent in democratic countries by the care and vigilance of the adult population was emphasised by the president of the Workers’ Educational Association (Mr H. D. Acland) when officially opening the twenty-sixth session of the association on Saturday evening. Mr, John Roberts, who has recently returned fr„m a visit to Geneva, gave ah interesting report of his impressions of the various countries he'had visited. He referred to ‘•he hours of work ir factories in Berlin, and the organisation of a factory in Russia where nurses were employed to take care of; the children of mothers -who worked within the factory. He paid ■ a high tribute to the Dutch people and also to the standard of living and education of the Scandinavians. Adult education, he continued, was in a flourishing condition in these northern countries. A musical programme was given.
