OFFICIAL FORECASTS £THE PRESS Special Servlce.J WELLINGTON, March 31. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological .Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Moderate to strong north-west wiiids, changing to south-westerly during IVonday. Rain In the ranges; fair and warm on the plains, hut * showers with the south-west / change. Seas moderate. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast:— Moderate to fresh westerly winds, changing to south-westerly during Monday. Weather unsettled, with rain probable, and becoming colder later, with some snow in the ranges. Seas rather roueh. The following is the Dominion forecast - "Weather unsettled in western and southern districts of the South Island, with rain at times; elsewhere mainly fair to fine but scattered rain extending later to Wellington and Taranaki, and showers accompanying the southwesterly change in Canterbury. Mild temperatures, but becoming cooler in the south. An anticyclone remains centred west of the North ' Island, while a series of westerly depressions is passing in the south. Barometers are rising rapidly over south-eastern Australia. Winds—Light and variable from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay northwards, elsewhere north-westerly predominating and becoming strong at times with gales in exposed positions, with the south-westerly change commencing in the far south after about 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Becoming rough south of Farewell Spit, about Cook and Foveaux Straits, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light and variable winds and slight to moderate seas in central and northern portions, strong north-west to west winds in the southern portion, changing later to southwest. Seas rough. Weather unsettled in western and southern districts. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Saturday was a fine, warm day, with brilliant sunshine till mid-afternoon, when scattered clouds appeared. A light east-north-easterly wind was blowing. . Yesterday was overcast and sultry, with no wind. The maximum temperature was 82,5 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was overcast, with a strong nor'-weat wind. The temperature was 73 degrees, and the barometer, ,which had fallen steadily all day, was at 29.53 inches (1000 millibars).

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland— Saturday was sunny and'fine with ft light southerly wind. The barometer at midnight was at 30.24 inches .(1924 millibars). Sunday was fine and sunny, with a Heht southerly. The barometer at 5 o'clock was at 30.21 inches (1023 millibarsL The week-end maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 55 degrees. Wellington—The weather , was fine on Saturday but cloudy to overcast on Sundav.\ A northerly wind gradually freshened during the week-end. > The minimum temperature on Friday was 48.5 degrees, the maximum on Saturday 67.2 degrees, and the minimum on Saturday 52 degrees. Oh Sunday the maximum was 58.8 degrees. At 3 P.m. the temperature was 57 8 degrees and the barometer 1017.3 millibars. •Dunedin—On Saturday morning the weather was fine and mild with little wind. The sun shone during the morning but the sky became overcast later and rain fell after dark. The barometer was falling i throughout the day and did not become steady until midday yesterctay, when the reading was 29.89 Inches (1009 millibars). A hot north-west wind prevailed, but It tended towards the south in the afternoon. The temperature on Saturday was 66 degrees and yesterday the thermometer rose to 76 degrees,
