CANTERBURY CASH CLUB LAST MEETING OF SEASON '* A large crowd. attended the last meeting this season of the Canterbury Cash Cycle Club at English Park on Saturday night. Well-balanced fields competed in all events, and many close finishes were seen. In the half-mile boys’ handicap, L. Atkinson rode exceptionally well to record the last time of Imin 9sec. H. J. Smither gave his usual good performance in winning the quarter-mile and mile and a half handicap, and A. J. Tomson, O. R Selwood, and J. H, Newlove also were prominent. A few spots of rain fell during (he evening, but the track was fast, (he skill displayed by some riders in cornering being particularly noteworthy. The president of the club (Mr Gordon Fergus) presented a ribbon to H. J. Smither for winning the quarter-mile championship, and another to the heaviest rider In the Centennial Handicap, Mr P. Goulding. This was an old-timers’ race with a weight limit of 15 stone, and proved very popular. Results were as follows; — Quarter-mile Championship—First heat; .7. G. Crofts, 32 2-ssec. Papanui. the holders of the cup. set a fast pace from the start and gained nearly hall a lap on the Technical team. Five Miles Points Race—K. E. Johnston (29 points) 1. J. H. Newlove and A.
