WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MARONAN The annual meeting of the Maronan Women’s Institute was held recently in the Maronan Hall. Mrs L. Galletly presided over a good attendance. J7ne annual report and balance-sheet showed that the last year had been successful, both socially and finandally. It was decided to contribute two parcels for the Expeditionary Forces overseas as requested by headquarters. Prizes for most points in competitions held during the year were won by Misses P. Galletly and B. Davidson. Mrs J. Whiting, and Mrs G. Scales Mrs R. Austin (Mayfield) presided at the election of officers. The results were; —president, Mrs Graham; Scales, vice-presidents, Mrs L. Galletly and Mrs H. Black; committee, Mrs E. Rhodes, Mrs A. Sparrow, Mrs E. Husband, Mrs H. Galletly, Misses Galletly and Davidson. Members agreed to canvass the district for the Mayor’s Fund for the appeal for the fighting forces. DANCE AT SPRINGSTON There was an excellent attendance at the dance arranged by the members of the Springston Sunshine Club. Music was played by Stewart’s Band, and extras by Misses T.. Riordan and M. Greenan. Messrs R. Everest and J. Mitchell were masters of ceremonies. Amongst those present were Mesdames P. V. Bailey, O. T, Bailey, . H Hoskin, F. Roberts, M. Millar, C. Alice Thomas, Ursula Riordan, Freda Robinson, N. Stace. ' CRICKET CLUB DANCE A dance organised by members of the Cheviot Cricket Club was held in the Cheviot Town Hall recently. The music was played by the Waiau Band, and extras by Misses Jessie and Joyce Pain, Faith Auld, and Mr R. Burnett. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs J. Crossen and C. Whitehead.
