DOMINION STATUS FOR INDIA
CALCUTTA NEWSPAPER’S STATEMENT
(Received February 4, 0.30 p-m,) LONDON, February 3.
The Calcutta newspaper, the "Star of India," says that when the Viceroy (Lord Linlithgow) meets Mr Gandhi, he will offer dominion status after the war, Great Britain retaining the control of defence for 30 years. Statutory committees will be suggested for each province as a safeguard to the minorities. Britain’s condition is that the congress governments, which resigned, should return to office immediately and co-operate in the war effort.
