DECLINE IN CITY ENLISTMENTS
TEN MEN REGISTERED
A falling-off in recruiting was recorded in Christchurch yesterday, the rate of enlistment being the slowest for some weeks.
The next draft for the 2nd Echelon will go into camp, on January 22, and it is expected that the complements to fill the quotas will, entrain for camps on January 31. The Recruiting Depot in Cathedral square had a slack day, although many inquiries from men over the age of 35 years were answered. EOTERTAINMBNT OF SOLDIERS
WELCOME CLUB TO REOPEN TO-MORROW
The Christchurch Welcome Club is S reopen to-morrow evening for e entertainment of soldiers now in camp, with a high tea, sing-song, and dance, for which partners will be provided. Admission for the latter will be by card only. The Mayor (Mr R.M. Macfarlane) and Mrs Macfarlane, together with the president of the Christchurch Re-.. turned Soldiers' Association -(Mr A. E. Haynes) will be present. On Sunday evening there will again
be high tea, a sing-song, and concert, which is to begin at 8.15 p.m; For Sunday afternoon the: Welcome Club has made arrangements for tennis parties, boating, surfing, golf, or bowls. , All the Christchurch clubs have offered their co-operation. It ; is also hoped to arrange motor-car; picnic excursions. Anyone willing to assist in this respect should get in touch with the Welcome Club. In future the club will.be open over the week-ends, including Friday evenings,' in order to provide entertainment for soldiers on leave. ." ,
