HONG KONG HARBOUR CLOSED
"NECESSARY DEFENCE MEASURE" (Received January 3, 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 2. . Britain closed Hong Kong harbour as "a necessary, defence measure" after on off-shore patrol sounded an alarm, the cause of which is not disclosed.
Ships of all nationalities are forbidden to enter or leave pending further orders. The Admiralty also withdrew two gunboats of the Yangtse patrol, leaving only three of the original 13.
