A SOLDIER’S FUNERAL

PRIVATE W. C. TOY M IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY' JLT' LYTTELTON . , The funeral -of Private ; W. .C’Vdy, of the 2nd Expeditionary - Force, -igho died as the result of a motor accident at Rolleston,’ took place at Lyttelton yesterday - afternoon, and was .. one of • the largest military funerals, held in the port. The funeral processidn left the- Council Chambers for the .publip cemetery, where the- service was-con-, ducted by the Rev. H..* Thompson curate of Holy Trinity Church.-Mr and Mrs W. W. Toy. parents; - were the chief mourners, and -the • bearers were v, four Lyttelton soldiers at .present'..ajf Burnham, and two members .of . Npv. TOr Platoon. A Company, 20th Rifle Ba.t- J talion to which Private Toy belonged. ( Major. H. G. Livingstone represented Colonel P. H. Bell, Officer Commandingthe Southern Military District.- A party from A Company, under* Major A. ‘T. McDuff, attended, and the firing party, under* Sergeant E. L. Heeney, was supplied from the same compcny. Members of Z company. National .Reserve, under Major J. .P..E. -Veale, and representatives of the Lyttelton Re- . turned Soldiers’ Association, also ; attended. At the conclusion of the service, - "Last Post” and "Reveille” ■ ware sounded by five buglers from Battalion Headquarters. > More than 70 wreaths-were- forwarded, - including those from' Officer Commanding and all Ranks, Southern Military District;-Officer Commanding arid Troops..
