GERMAN VESSEL INTERNED

TACOMA DETAINED AT MONTEVIDEO

ORDER BY URUGUAYAN GOVERNMENT

(united PEES 3 ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 2, 8 p.m.) LONDON, January 1. The German ship Tacoma (8268 tons), which acted as a supply vessel for the Admiral Graf Spee, has been interned by Uruguay. She lies at anchor in the outer harbour at Montevideo, near where the German pocket battleship was scuttled. The time limit expired at H. 30 this morning. Shortly afterwards, the secretary of the port authority and a representative of the North German Lloyd Line, with 20 marines, went aboard and 'interned the vessel. '

The Uruguayan Government’s decision to intern the Tacoma was made on the pround that she was a' naval vessel because of the help she gave the Admiral Graf Spee. , The Montevideo correspondent of the “New York Times” says it Is expected that the Tacoma' will be beached inside the harbour on January 3, after arrangements for the crew’s internment have been, completed. The internment was ordered in spite of a further German Note maintaining that the Tacoma Was a merchant ship and not a naval auxiliary. arid that the assistance to the Admiral Graf Spee was merely humanitarian. When, the Note was presented, the Tacoma was flying the war flag reserved for warships and naval auxiliaries.
