The Hon. 1 Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, was a passenger for the north by the ■steamer express last evening. ‘ Mr Laurence Rickard, who for the last five years has been organist and choirmaster of St. Michael 'and All Angels’ Churchy has resigned that position, having accepted a similar post at Holy Tripity Church, Avoriside. Recently one of the junior choristers, for St. Michael’s choir, presented Mr Rickard with a leather suitcase, expressing regret at his departure and tendering him good wishes for his future work. Commodore H. E. Horan, Chief of the Naval Staff,, is visiting Auckland. „ Mr; J. ,W. , Dove; of .Dunedin, has been appointed a member of the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Registration Board. , • Thexßev. J. A. G. Day, who has been a voluntary . deacon in Ngaruawahia will leave New Zealand shortly for missionary work in Polynesia. ' ’ Mr G. MUrch retired on Saturday from the position of town clerk of Wanganui, utter 38 years’ service. He Is succeeded by Mr C, R. White, who first'joined the service of the Wanganui City Council iri 1913. Commander J. W, Farquhar, R.N., has been promoted to the rank of captain. A son of Admiral; Sir Arthur Farquhar, he served in H'.M.S. Beribow during the Great War and later in the battleship Nelson,, before beirig appointed as commander in H.M-S,; Diomede upon her recommissioning; on the, New station in 1933. Later he returned to England, Mr Frank Hinton has' been appointed ate editor of the: “Otago Daily Times.” Born in Invercargill, -Mr Hinton attended the Southland Boys’ High School in-1910 and 1911 j and then joined the’ "Southland; ‘Daily News *on Which he held theposition -of. chuff resigning in 192S to join the sub-editorial staff of the* Christchurch^ "Sup.” On the/ absorption of that journal by the Christchurch Star, Mr Hinton joined the “Otago Daily Times editorial staff.
