ACCIDENTS
FALL FROM GRADER WELLINGTON MAN DIES FROM INJURIES f WELLINGTON, December 15. Severe injuries to his head, face, and body, from which he died soon after being admitted to hospital, were received by L. Simmpns, a married man, of Newtown. Wellington, when he fell from a grader on the Hutt road late this afternoon. The accident occurred at a point where the Public Works Department has considerable equipment used in the reconstruction of the road. As Simmons fell from the grader his clothing was caught in some part of the moving machinery. He was dragged along the road for a short ■ distance, and it is believed the Injurieshe received were inflicted by one of the wheels supporting the heavy vehicle. KILLED INSTANTLY MAN RUN OVER BY TRAILER NEAR EALING Albert Henry Clinch, married, aged 26, an employee in the workshop of the Public Works Department at Temuka, was killed instantly about 11 o’clock on Thursday evening when he was run over by a five-ton trailer on the north approach to the new Rangilala traffic bridge at Ealing. Clinch was operating the handbrake of a trailer carrying a 10-ton digging plant, which was being towed behinda motor-truck driven by another employee of the department. When the bottom of the incline to the bridge was reached the truck driver stopped, but could not see Clinch and eventually found his body lying on the road some yards behind the plant. An inquest Was opened by Mr E. C. Bathurst, Coroner, at Ashburton yesterday, and was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given. MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED Graham Wolfe, aged 17, of Morris street, Avonside, suffered head injuries and a fractured bone in his left leg when his motor-cycle collided with a motor-car at the intersection of Retreat road and Bracken street about 6 o’clock last night. He was taken by a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital, his condition being given fts JiQt serious.
